When Trust is Tested: A Bride-to-Be Investigates a Bucks Party in Melbourne

Writer: Dylan BartoloDylan Bartolo

At Code Nine Process Serving, our investigators handle a variety of cases where trust is at stake. Recently, a soon-to-be bride "Sophie" engaged our services to discreetly monitor her fiancé during a three-day bucks party. With wedding plans in motion, she had heard concerning rumors about the party’s activities and wanted reassurance before walking down the aisle.

The Decision to Hire surveillance investigators in Melbourne

I first met Sophie at a pre-determined café that was closer to her home in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. She provided a background of her situation and it was apparent that her concerns and suspicions were going to dictate whether her upcoming Big Day was going to go ahead as planned, or be completely cancelled. She expressed unease about the destination and attendees of the bucks party, particularly as it was being held in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Our task was to discreetly monitor her fiancé's movements, activities and interactions over the weekend, ensuring that any findings were captured, documented and reported back to our client.

The Surveillance Plan

Our team and I put together a detailed operation plan based on the clients information about the accommodation booked, attendees and the intelligence we were able to gather from our our sources. We operated with two (2) teams of three (3) agents who were all kitted up with discreet covert surveillance devices. I coordinated the operation at 8PM on a cold Saturday evening, parked parrallel in a suburban street. As planned the target was picked up from his home by four (4) other middle aged males, kissing our client goodbye as he entered the back seat of a sedan.

The males drove into the CBD and to the accommodation, a high-rise apartment in a laneway accessed only through a reception and secure swipe cards. As they checked in, both our teams RV'd nearby and and we conducted a safety briefing in the field.

Night on the town

Our team stayed in position, until the group exited the accommodation where we transitioned from mobile surveillance to on-foot. The group ventured into the lively Melbourne CBD nightlife, beginning with dinner at a trendy restaurant known for its bustling atmosphere and late-night crowd. The group were consuming large amounts of alcohol as the dinner continued.

Both surveillance teams maintained visual contact while blending effortlessly into the surroundings. Using discreet covert devices, we documented the group’s movements and interactions as they transitioned from the restaurant to a series of bars and clubs. The target appeared relaxed and engaged with his group, enjoying the camaraderie of the night without straying into concerning behavior.

Despite the high-energy environment, the team maintained focus, ensuring every interaction was observed and recorded. Care was taken to avoid drawing attention, allowing the party to proceed naturally while we gathered evidence for the client.

Surveillance uncovered drug use in the toilet of a Melbourne Night club

Wasn't what our client was expecting

As the night continued all operatives were now within a busy nightclub that the group had entered. Our surveillance operatives, blending seamlessly into the lively crowd, managed to position themselves close to the target and his friends. While observing and listening to their conversations, it became clear that the group’s night was escalating beyond typical celebrations.

At one point, the target was seen entering the bathroom alone. One of our operatives discreetly followed, maintaining a safe but effective observation point. Inside, the target was observed engaging in a transaction consistent with the purchase of illegal drugs. Moments later, he was seen using the substances in the bathroom stall before rejoining his group. This was the climactic point during the whole operation, the group returned to their accommodation in the early hours of the next morning and spent most the following day 'recovering' from the night before.

As the operation drew to a closure we presented our findings to our client. It was apparent that she wasn't aware of her partners drug use and was shocked. After checking in several weeks later, we learned that the couple proceeded to get married.
